Adult Participation

This is an important part of the ImaginationGYM® Methodology. The imagination exercises are just as effective with adults as with children. In fact in many cases they are used by adults exclusively. (Even though The Enchanted Forest is only officially released at the moment, five different titles have been field tested for several years). We encourage adults to listen to the stories with the children so as they can become more involved in the child’s learning process. This is important because adults have such an input into a child’s learning. Children also enjoy the experience more if they think a ‘significant adult’ is sharing the experience with them.

Much of our reasoning for this is based around Lev Vygotsky’s theory The Zone of Proximal Development which describes how children learn. By making the imagination exercises beneficial to adults we are hopefully encouraging adults into ‘The Zone’. It is quite an involved theory but if you want to learn more about how the ImaginationGYM® Methodology works with The Zone of Proximal Development you can download the following document titled “Reclaiming the Zone” written by Peter Blackbyrne and Rosaleen Durkin.
