Whole Brain Learning
The brain is divided into two hemispheres. In general the left hemisphere controls the right side of the body and specializes in the more ‘academic’ aspects of our intelligence such as logic, analysis, rational thinking, etc. The right hemisphere controls the left side of our body and specializes in creativity, intuition, imaginative thinking, etc. These divisions are not defacto and may vary from one individual to another. Another phenomenon of the brain is that it is plastic so it is possible for one part of the brain to take over functions that were previously the domain of another part of the brain, e.g. as a result of injury. It does not matter to ImaginationGYM® where a specific function is located only that it is activated and exercised. However harmony between the two hemispheres is essential for both learning and for full brain potential as opposed to applying just one dominant hemisphere. The structure of the imagination exercises encourages use of the whole brain during then imaginative process. Many of the activities can be used to identify dominance or to exercise a non dominant hemisphere should an educator wish to use them this way.
This video below from Professor Iain Gilchrist explains brilliantly the need to use both hemispheres in our daily life.
